In soviet Russia, it was hard to find fresh fruit. There are plenty of places on the planet today where you can’t even get bad fruit. Western societies have often forgotten what it’s like to pick through a store and try to find a rare vegetable or piece of fruit. I mean, 24×7, 365 I can go to a local store and grab an apple or some bananas. We don’t really think about it much because we’re used to it.
Fruit will be there and for the most part, they’ll be fresh and unbruised. To be fair, they probably look better than they are though. Red Delicious apples, really don’t taste that good. To me at least. It’s of course subjective. While the outside is quintessentially what we expect from an apple, the inside is a bit mealy and not as sweet as other types. But that’s because they’ve been selected for the color of the skin, and the fruit’s ability to get jostled around and still give the impression of a ripe and good fruit.
It’s really incredible that we’ve sacrificed a main feature of the fruit in order get something that lets us look at it and think it looks fine. But the moment we use it for the one thing it’s ACTUALLY supposed to be for (eating) we discover that it’s not that tasty. The thing it’s supposed to be for, it not very good at.
Sure, there are still some apples that are sweet and crisp and wonderful to eat. But the biggest bin in the supermarket is still generally Red Delicious. The people in charge of picking fruit selected a fruit that looked good and could do what they wanted while not really thinking about the thing that people actually want from the fruit.
So, that giant long metaphor finally comes around and we discover that almost all cops are bad cops. They may look the part and be fine for some people. But when you really want them to help you out, you may discover that they’re really not that good at the one thing you want them to do: Serve and Protect.
So, while some sections of the world don’t really have the level of ‘Law and Order’ that the US enjoys, I think it’s pretty safe to say that the most of those officers are more interested in the appearance of justice then doing any actual justice. Maybe the officers just can’t tell the difference anymore. Like the difference between a taser and a 9mm pistol.
Like those officers, maybe I can’t tell the difference between a bad cop and a good one. So instead, I’m just going to assume the one in my hand is the the one I’m think it is. They’re all bad cops.
