On the bullshit of Cancel Culture

Cancel culture doesn’t exist. It’s a mirage, smoke and mirrors, a catchy-cliché substitute for petulant children who prefer more ice cream to the actual imposition of consequences resulting from bad behavior. When “ha, ha, j/k, Y U so salty?” isn’t enough to cover for truly egregious behavior.

People who howl about how “unfair” it is when their hate speech is blocked, or their Facebook page calling for physical harm to others is taken down. Then it’s unfair. Then it’s “boo hoo I’m being Cancelled!”

No, no you’re not, you’re being punished for your own bad behavior, behavior which you could have chosen at ANY time not to commit. Consequences which, maybe wouldn’t have happened 50 years ago when it was ok to belittle, demean, attack, deny rights to women, ethnic minorities, and gays. But now, guess what, the law has determined that the law belongs to all, not just those with money and inherited privilege.

So whenever I hear someone complaining about Cancel Culture, I immediately label that person as someone who doesn’t deserve the time of day to begin with. Someone who can’t take responsibility for their own actions. And I have no time for self-centered brats who can dish it, but can’t take it.
